Government of Liberia Engages Ghanaian Authorities following the Tragic Death of a Liberian Citizen in Ghana

The Government of Liberia has received confirmed information regarding the death of a Liberian national, Mr. Austin Tengbeh, aged 26, following an incident that occurred on February 27, 2026 in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra, Ghana.

The Embassy of Liberia in Accra was informed of the matter on February 28, 2026 and immediately initiated contacts with the relevant Ghanaian authorities, including the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police, to obtain verified details and to ensure that appropriate procedures are being followed.

According to information provided by the Ghana Police Service, the matter is currently under active investigation. The Embassy has been informed that arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved.

The Government of Liberia has been informed that Mr. Tengbeh, a resident of the Spintex area, had gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred, which subsequently led to the unfortunate events now under investigation. The Ghana Police Service immediately responded to the scene and transported Mr. Tengbeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Embassy has been in communication with individuals connected to the incident, members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and the appropriate Ghanaian authorities. The Government is also making efforts to formally engage the next of kin of the deceased in order to provide appropriate consular assistance and support.

The Government will continue to follow the matter closely and will remain actively engaged with the relevant Ghanaian authorities to ensure that the matter proceeds in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana
